From the very first page, Martha Teichner’s captivating descriptions transported me to New York and the world that she lives in. I love it when I can visualize scenes as they unfold because the author is a born storyteller like Martha.

I appreciated how much the friendship between Martha and Carol blossomed. They were so different from each other but quickly became very close. Carol seems to be more of the life of any party, while I would think Martha is a steadfast friend who is always there for those she cares about. I had to nod along as she spoke of her childhood, largely spent alone as an only child, and therefore was fine being by herself. I had the same experience as a child. This background information, that she freely shared, was a nice addition, because it helped me know the author better.

Moreover, I loved reading about the banter between Carol and Martha. The texts the women shared back and forth, filled with witty remarks, were delightful and showed another side to their friendship. At the same time the book is one filled with wonder and marvelous coincidences, the kind that I think we all experience; we just need to be aware of them.

A good bit of the book is filled with the deepening relationship between the dogs, but I can’t help but wonder how Minnie has been doing since. I would love to read more stories like this; Perhaps Martha could continue the story and give us an update? I was also surprised by the fact that Martha has a dog au pair—I never heard of that position before!!!!! I would love to move to New York and become a dog au pair!!!!!!!

I pass a lot of the books that I get to people I know. This one, on the other hand, is one I’ll keep and probably be buying extra copies of to share with others who love their pets. This book will make you smile and bring you to tears, It’s definitely a five star book.
