I am not usually one for memoirs, but I felt that this novel transcended most. It broke through a barrier in my heart, and I actually could relate to Martha’s story. When Harry Met Minnie by Martha Teichner is definitely more than just a book for dog lovers. It reaches into the depths of everyday life, things taken for granted, time made, time lost, friendships made, wishes, and regrets.

When Harry Met Minnie was a lot more different than I expected. I felt it was going to be a sweet tale about Bull Terriers. Which it is and it isn’t. Martha tells her story, her journey with her several furrever friends (bull terriers). Not only is this story about Harry and Minnie, but it is just as much about people. Martha, Carol, Stephen, and more. Not to mention Martha’s other previous beloved bull terriers Piggy and Goose. All with a New York City air to it.

The story is such a compelling read I really don’t want to give away any spoilers. Needless to say, when Harry meets Minnie the timing is perfect. Martha and Minnie had just lost Goose, and both were grieving. By chance her paw pal Stephen introduces Martha to his friend Carol who needs to find a home for Harry direly. No one wants poor Harry. He carries a lot of baggage. Nonetheless, the story begins to unfold a tale of a wonderful serendipitous meeting. One that brings friendship, love, and some heartbreak as well.

I absolutely loved When Harry Met Minnie by Martha Teichner! I give the novel four and a half stars out of five stars. I didn’t see anything about the story that I would criticize, but I really would have loved to see the pictures! I also would have loved to see an afterward about Martha and Minnie, and where they are today. Hence, the half star deduction. This was a truly beautiful and touching tale. Until next time, my friends.
