This book hits very close to home for me. I relate to Carol and have often shared my own fears about the fates of my 4 legged family in the event of my passing. I too tend to collect the...."challenging" pets, whether it be for health or behavior reasons. So right off the bat, this book was hitting me in a soft spot. Sometimes, things are just meant to be and that's how Carol and Martha's connection was. It was so special to watch that relationship blossom and yet also so painful, knowing how the story would ultimately end.
This book is sad of course. It's hard for anyone to follow another person's final days and not feel emotional. But following Martha and Minnie's journey to Carol and Harry was so beautiful and so inspirational that it ultimately made this story heartwarming and tender. The book is well written and engaging and it's definitely worth the tears you might shed along the way.
