Friendship Comes when Least Expected
I will start out by saying that I was immediately drawn in by the title and cover of this book! The title closely resembles When Harry Met Sally which although it can now be considered old, is one of my favorite movies. The story begins when a mutual friend of Martha and Carol, who is dying of cancer, brings the two together via their dogs. Carol is looking for someone to become Harry's new dog mother when she is gone. Since Martha is already has a bull terrier named Minnie, she seems to be the perfect candidate.
At first Martha doesn't know if she wants to take on another dog, but decides to try it out. Through many instances of trying to bring the two dogs together which aren't all successful, Martha and Carol become fast friends. This is a story about friendship, love, and loyalty. It is about how two people who only really knew each other for a short while, can become so close. And to think; they were brought together by their dogs! Although it is melancholy at times, it didn't make me want to stop reading and in fact it just made me want to keep on reading. There are several instances that are laugh out loud funny. I think it is the combination of these different kinds of events and the feelings that they provoke that make this book work. It is a tribute to both Carol and to Harry. The friendship that was described in this book was inspirational! Thank you to Celadon Books for the ARC! @CeladonBooks @BookishFirst
