When Harry Met Minnie is a sweet story of friendship, life (and life's losses) and dogs. Martha Teichner loves dogs, but especially bull terriers, and has several that have made her life more joyful. This story focuses on Minnie and how they came to have another, Harry, enter their lives after an acquaintance who became a friend, needed someone to care for Harry as she grappled with terminal cancer. I absolutely loved the base story and the beautiful and mysterious ways the universe works to have friends and dog soulmates meet, but the book slagged on due to several tangents--the author's work history, land ownership history, house histories, other dogs, that detracted from the main focus and were really unnecessary to the story. I would have loved it more, had it focused more on Harry and the story of his dying owner, Carol, (what was her STORY? She seemed like mysterious character with a really good back story we didn't hear enough of!) and his new life with Minnie. BONUS if the book included a midsection with PHOTOS of all of the friends, places and people these dogs meet. As it was told, it was a sweet story that could have fit into a magazine article or TV show, but the book itself was largely filler.
