Eleanor has left her boarding school. She needs to connect with her family again. She’s been away for 8 long years.
As she is riding the train she’s thinking about the family and if anything has changed while she was away at school.
As she gets close to the end of her trip, the conductor approaches. He tells her that the train doesn’t make a full stop at the station. She will have to jump off and hopefully land on the platform.
She gathers her bag and makes a great leap, only twisting her ankle a bit. Then she makes the long trek to her parents house. When she arrives home the outside is dark and dingy. It doesn’t appear to be lighter inside either.
When she hesitantly enters the house, she finds her grandmother lurking in the kitchen. Grandpa is out hunting for dinner. He brings in a brace of rabbits with torn throats. Eleanor loses her appetite. She finally sees her sister and her sister takes her to her room.
