What Beauty There Is shocked and surprised me. To begin with, this book is physically beautiful. Both the intricate cover and chapter illustrations were interesting. However, I don't know that this cover fits with the dark themes present in this book.

As I began reading, this book hurt my Mamma heart. I was angry at the adults of this book for being such terrible parents. Drugs, jail, bad choices, and just plain evil have left main characters Jack, Matty, and Ava fending for themselves. So many times I found myself saying someone help these kids! I was amazed at how strong the bond was between older brother Jack and little guy Matty. Through injury, cold, eviction, etc Jack was determined to provide for and keep Matty safe.

Overall, this book kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time reading it. I did notice this is book #1 in the series and I'm interested to see what book #2 will be like.
