Honestly I wanted to read this book just based on the book summary and the gorgeous book cover. I tend to give debut author more benefit of the doubt on their first book. But this book went BEYOND my expectations! The author’s writing is lyrical and filled with descriptions. It’s not too wordy and the storyline follows along beautifully. We have 2 flawed and self serving characters that I can’t help rooting for throughout the book. It’s just not a book about striving to either make ends meet or doing the right thing - it’s about self discovery, self sacrificing for better. Without giving much away, the main character does succeed but with a price. I’m hoping this book becomes a series because honestly there is still some unanswered questions! I highly recommend this book to middle school - young adults. Even though there is theme of suicide and violence, it’s one of those books that great for open discussions.
