I really really loved the writing of What Beauty There Is and do hope it becomes a series. I took off one star because I wish I had more back story on Leland, the mother, Bardem for sure, and to explain the last chapter. It blew me away.

I am very critical of novels but thought this book was so well written. Most from the view point of Ava, Bardems daughter. She is so much light in the utter darkness and cold of this book. Not to mention gory details.

I've never been to Idaho but it sounds cold and I felt cold throughout the book. It is mere talent to be able to make the reader feel utterly frozen by using their words. I felt the snow, below zero, arctic air as these kids walked through the woods or were in a broken down house. So well done.

I liked the story about the drug money and how the crimes of the parents become the crimes of the children. I wish the police helped more than they did but then we wouldn't have had such a great adventure.
