This is a gripping first look. Faced with a life no child should face, main character Jack is immediately lovable. I deeply sympathize with Jack and the incredibly difficult decision he was forced to make within the first few pages. We also got a peek at the other main character, and the moment she and Jack meet, a moment that promises to shape the rest of the story.
