Hello all my true crime fans out there! If you’re looking for your next true crime read look no further. I’ve recently become a huge fan of reading true crime books, so I made sure to request this one early and was so excited when I was approved to read it! The story of Mary Yoder’s murder was an almost unbelievable one that will have you thinking “there’s just no way…”

One of the things I was most excited to learn was that this crime took place just a few years ago in 2015. I tend to gravitate more towards true crime stories that happened recently than those that took place a long time ago. These are people that were living when I was living. I could have passed them on the street or driven next to them in a car! I don’t know why exactly, but that fascinates me.

This true crime was a story of revenge and scorned lovers. It was pretty obvious early on whom the killer was, but for me, I was disappointed to have that information. When I read true crime, I’m not usually looking for the shock factor of the “whodunit.” I wanted to be presented with the conclusion early on and then given the facts to back up this conclusion, and the author did just that. My only issue with the telling of the story was that it jumped around in the timeline a lot and used quite a few different dates. As someone who isn’t great with remembering dates, I found myself having to look back and see where exactly that date sits on the murder’s timeline. I think it would have been easier to follow along with a more chronological order. However, this small fact can be easily overlooked due to the fact that this was a great true crime story! Seriously, get your hands on this one if you’re looking for a new true crime book to dive into.
