True stories shouldn't read like great horror fiction...

I mean it. Any time I read a new true crime book I feel like I'm reading a surreal horror fiction novel or thriller that came from the mind of an author, not a summation of real life experiences. Add in the fact that this story happened in my home state, and I hearing about it, and I am thoroughly spooked at the lengths some will go to in our lives.

Also, something about this cover stands out negatively to me, in a way that might encourage me not to pick it up if I was in the bookstore. I think it might be the color, but can't be certain. Sorry that's not more helpful!

Thanks for the opportunity to read this sample!
