Through the sample I read, I instantly became connected to the characters as well as the plot. Already, a dozen questions race through my mind. Did the ex-girlfriend really kill the mother out of a desire for vengeance? Or was there something more? Did the mother know something that the son did not? The narrator plays a careful hand in not revealing clues right away through the story. In the information that is given, it feels as if the writing is that of a detective confiding the reader and inviting him or her to draw their own conclusions. I have nearly seen that in a story before and I am wanting to know the rest now.
