This is a YA romance with the trope of the male love interest is sent to kill our heroine. They're both after the same object with different plot lines going on. What I really enjoyed was the infusion/influence of culture seen right from the first page, which had me googling all the new terms I came across. I loved being exposed to this new culture(that I don't have much knowledge on) because it's always good to be accepting and understanding of all cultures. I love that our female main character is a strong lead, but I also appreciate how realistic she is via her fears. Being a female huntress would ruin her credibility and isn't allowed/ The challenges she faces just for being a female is relatable in itself. The aspect of the villagers falling into superstition/blindly following the caliph's words because they need to place blame is applicable to real world scenarios making the story more captivating. The imagery/ beginning of world building felt promising in the few chapters I read. I am a sucker for assassins.. so the fact that Nasir is one and son of the Sultan makes things interesting. His character is definitely morally grey. I love his internal dialogue, you can see he struggles with his purpose but at the same time accepts it as it is. Both characters are broken and lost with negative associations to love and I can't wait to se what happens when they come head to head. The concept of the Sisters and the lost magic is intriguing vs what the sultan is dabbling in, I'm excited to learn more! I can't wait to read the rest of this book!
