I was so excited to receive a copy of this book because it had been on my TBR for so long and the sequel had just come out as well. I had heard amazing things about it, and I was not disappointed. This book had everything I could have asked for!! There was amazing representation and female empowerment. I loved reading about Zafira's journey towards accepting the fact that she could be a badass as a woman and not have to pretend she was a man to gain attention. The characters in general were so lovable. Deen is a sweetheart and I really loved Zafira's interactions with Yasmine. Altair is probably my favorite; I love the snarky, witty characters that have a heart of gold. Benyamin is amazing and I feel like I could tell him anything and trust him with my secrets. Kifah needs a little more development before I can say much about her, but I'm definitely intrigued. And of course we have Nasir, everyone's favorite emo teen. He was a little angsty for my taste, but for good reason! He's definitely a deep and complex character and I can't even begin to peel back all of those layers, but I'm certainly having fun trying! There were so many plot twists and big reveals within the last hundred pages of the book, and I'm so excited to see where the next one takes the story! Overall this was an amazing book that I'm so glad I picked up, and I'd recommend it to anyone who loves a good fantasy adventure!
