For starters, this book has a map. Any book that starts with a map is automatically a winner in my eyes. The fantasy world Hafsah Faizal has created is breathtaking. The world-building is very well done; I understood the world the characters lived in and was totally able to follow the cultural aspects of the story. Speaking of the culture of this novel, it was amazing to read. This story is based on various aspects of middle eastern culture, and blends real-world things seamlessly into a fantasy world. I have read plenty of novels with poorly executed representation, and this will cure any thirst for a well-written, accurate, and respectful portrayal of middle eastern cultures.
