Hafsah Faizal's We Hunt the Flame follows Zafira, who is a hunter and her village's last hope (against her village's knowledge and wishes), and is invited into a mysterious and alluring hunt for a book, that will restore her kingdom's store of magic. Also on this hunt, unbeknownst to her, is the Prince of Death, Nasir, whose trade in the death of those who threaten the sultancy, and right now, his target is a certain Hunter.
This was an incredibly lush world inspired from the Middle Eastern and South Asian cultures. Zafira is strong and soft, built from ice but giving at the same time, I adored her as a main character, she reminded me that you can want the things you want, and you can have grit to get them but you can also have your soft spots and be kind and forgiving. Nasir is the epitome of the murderous softie with a heart of gold. I adored the characters, the storyline, the way the romance was a definite slowburn enemies to lovers!
