The world that Hafsah creates is lush and imaginative in this debut. Inspired by ancient Arabia, we follow Zafira and Nasir as they navigate their worlds--and each other--in order to get what they want. Both characters find that they have to work together even while being enemies, and it leads to an interesting dynamic to read.

The supporting characters are just as interesting, with their stories and connections to each other gradually building up as they continue on their adventure together. You begin to see how each of them views the world and what their motivations are; as you connect with these characters, the question of "Who will betray whom, and when?" becomes an even more important as the story goes on.

I recommend this one for fantasy readers who are searching for a read that's not inspired by western settings. This is a unique book in the world of fantasy!
