#MultiGenerationalHistorical
We Hope for Better Things focuses on three generations and spans various time periods—the Civil War, the 60s, and present day. Mary, Nora, and Elizabeth are interesting characters and I connected with each of them in different ways. Their stories, although messy and maybe not ending the way I’d hoped, are easy to get lost in.
While I enjoyed these stories, I began to disconnect to the characters when so much time passed before they were prominent in the story again. I was always able to reconnect, but to be honest, due to that, and the length of the book, my interest waned at times.
Really strong imagery! I like the cover and the title, which are two main aspects that usually attract me to a book in the first place, and will seek out more of this author’s work in the future. If you like multi-generational historical fiction that includes a variety of viewpoints, this is a good pick for you.
