This is a great historical read. I enjoyed the multiple time lines. Going back and forth between the Civil War and the 1960s riots showed that fre here really are various forms of resistance. It shows that a picture really is worth a thousand words. William has an eye for beauty and truth in his photography and his talent is duly recognized by Nora. Her father and his anger fuels her rebellion that ties Willaim and her together in history. She does not quite understand what William and his people have gone through as slaves, emancipated and Jim Crow laws.
Reconciliation is possible. Truly in the current political climate, we hope for better things. This book gives hope that we can overcome again just like humanity has for hundreds of years.
