We Hope for Better Things starts off with a bang. It promises family drama and old secrets to be revealed. It starts out with Elizabeth meeting an older African American man and his son about some old pictures that might belong to a relative of hers. It turns out the pictures are from the race riot days. As journalist, Elizabeth is itching to get her fingers on the pictures, so she agrees to try and track down this so-called relative she’s never heard of. I was definitely intrigued by the opening of the book. There seems to be some Christian themes as well.
