I really appreciate books that are able to shed some light on historical events that are often overlooked in literature, while making the story and place come alive in a new way. I love that this book takes a look at the story of Detroit, particularly zeroing in on race relations and the 1967 riots. Even the title comes from the Detroit city motto (I learned something on the first page!). In just the first few pages of this story I feel like I know enough about the characters to be invested in them, which makes me want to keep reading in order to unearth the mystery and history that this book promises.
