We Deserve Monuments is such a fantastic book. First, let me say that this book cover is absolutely gorgeous and evokes so much power. I knew trauma and racism would have important roles in the story but was not expecting how deeply the book addresses generational trauma. Jason Hammonds approached the topic in such an insightful and, overall, emotionally provoking and thoughtful way. I also liked the exploration of the intergenerational relationships and the complexities of the friendships. The story is so dynamic in its exploration or each character's individual story as well as how their experiences impact them, how they move in this world, and how they interact with others. There was something about it that felt real and the world building was exceptional. I was able to truly envision this Georgia setting with no problem. This book makes it on my list of top reads in 2022.
