First, thank you to Bookish First for a review copy of this book.

Hands down, Mama Letty was my favorite character of this book! I adored her character and could really see her being as sassy as she was.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It dove right into racism and acceptance and the things we will do for the people we love. I liked the struggle Avery faced between her life back in DC and her new "temporary" home. The relationship she built with her grandmother along with trying to balance the emotional weight of her mother and grandmother's past.

I do wish there would have been some more scenes from the past. I thought the author did a great job but I would have liked more to help the ending come together more organically.

This is a fantastic read perfect for young adults and adults! I actually passed this book onto my teen right after I finished!
