Disappointing Ending

Overall I thought the book was pretty good but the major sticking points for me were the third person bits between some of the chapters (they pulled me out of the story every time) and the ending. There’s a huge detail dropped at the end that everyone seems to just ignore even though Avery gets irritated when the people around her sweep problems under the rug. That seems totally at odds with her character and the entire rest of the book. There are other smaller details that were completely not addressed by the end as well. The ending felt abrupt and wasn't wrapped up enough for me.

What I did enjoy was the way the relationships were handled and explored. Avery’s relationship with Mama Letty and Carole and Zora’s relationship in specific. The complexity there was great! I thought the pacing was good, I didn't find myself bored at any point.
