If you have been paying attention at all to the books I love, you know that “family drama” is close to the top of my contender's list for “Rachel’s fave genre.” There is just something so engaging about human relationships and the powerful effect we can have on one another’s lives — for the better and the worse.

Following the lives of the Brennans, a deeply connected Irish family rooted in that pesky Catholic guilt, Tracey Lange has woven together a compelling story about the magnetic power of family and the transcending nature of healing. I found myself drawn to each of the characters from the very first page and I was held captive all the way through.

At times, I did feel the lag of the plot pacing and the lack of complexity in writing, but I can’t complain. WE ARE THE BRENNANS did exactly what it set out to accomplish: it moved me and reminded me of just how grateful I am for the gift of the people in my life I call family.
