"Shame and guilt are like plagues. And we Irish wield them like weapons and wear them like medals."

The Brennans have a complicated history. While being fiercely loyal to each other, they are still keeping secrets from one another. Dad Mickey even has a secret box under a floor board in his closet.
Our story begins with Sunday and a calamity that sends her back home after five years away from the clan. (What happened to her reminds me of a recurring dream, minus the alcohol.) Anyway, I really loved spending time with the Brennan family. In addition to Mickey and Sunday, there are brothers Denny, Jackie, and Shane as well as family friend Kale. The family members are lovable while still being real. There are problems and many a misstep. They still stick together. There is hope for them and I will miss them now that I have finished the book. There is one plot point I was not a fan of, but I will keep it to myself to avoid spoilers.
