We Are the Brennans follows twenty-nine year old Sunday Brennan who's part of an Irish family and opens with quite an abrupt start. She wakes up in a Los Angeles Hospital after a drunk driving incident that forces her to go back home to her ... strained family.

Throughout the course of the book, we meet the Brennan family in New York and we get to unravel the complex relationship that Sunday has with them (and with herself). Being the only girl in a family of five brothers is certainly something and Sunday has to deal with all that unresolved baggage when she finally goes home.

I love love love dysfunctional family dramas. Not only are they entertaining and complex, but you get to see the same events unfold from so many different perspectives. More than that however, they feel very real and raw in that they often seem quite relatable. And that is definitely the case here.
