An elegant and compelling work that beautifully probes the consequences of secrets, trauma, and shame in an Irish Catholic family. We Are The Brennans, in addition to richly developed characters, timely issues, and surprising moments, stands out in how Tracey Lange uses multi perspectives to explore the various secrets and the impacts they have for a variety of family members. Overall, this was a good book about the powerful ties a family has and what can bring them together, whether or not it's through struggle or times of happiness. Despite the book not even being 300 pages long, it's definitely a heavier book in terms of the content warnings I listed above and I personally had to start and stop the book quite a few times to process everything that was going on. However, it's still worth reading if you're comfortable reading books with the CWs listed above, taking a break from lighter and/or longer books, or if you're just looking to see for yourself why this book has so many 4 star ratings!
