For a first book by this author it is an interesting story about a family with Irish roots and one in which family and extended friends mean everything. The story begins about the only woman in the family and her history in Los Angeles pre and post a car accident. However the majority of the story returns to New York when she does and when she and her brothers begin to find their way through building a business that is financially a challenge. The story includes individual life stories and how they play out both in love, past relationships, work, marriage and raising children. The story is well written and the detail does enable each persons story to be remember to the end. The ending has a soft thump and leaves one wondering about the final question "who did it?" but this doesn't distract from the flow of the book. In addition though life choices were made 5 years prior the book doesn't run that theme into the ground where a reader would just say "get over it".
