We Are the Brennans starts out with a very captivating opening scene (research trigger warnings at your own judgement). It enthralled me right away and I felt part of this family's world. I really liked how the author dedicated different chapters to the various family members (young and old) and we got perspectives from everyone. There was also a clever writing format connecting the chapters, but it's fun to discover than on your own.

The romance aspect was just ok for me. It created themes of found family and friendship drama, but for some reason, it was a little annoying. The setting takes place a lot in the family-owned Irish pub and this made for lots of cozy and atmospheric scenes (imagine having a drink in a dark and familiar bar with people who know your name and drink). I do feel like this book was a little rushed and too short for what it could have been; especially the ending, which luckily wrapped itself up, but too hastily in my opinion. Some of the main drama and sticky situations landed a bit outlandishly, but there was something about this vibe that makes it a book I will remember and already feel I crave/want to return to as a comfort read. Overall, really enjoyed it as a family drama and it got me looking for more books in this vein.
