If you are one of those people – like me – who much prefers a plot driven book to a character driven book but you really want to love these character driven books people talk about, pick up this book. This book is the best mix I think I’ve ever read of characters and character development with a heavy load of plot mixed in, and it’s not a brick – it’s actually relatively short. Here’s what’s going on in this one. Sunday Brennan (I just really love the name Sunday, don’t you?) is living in Los Angeles. She’s not really the success she pretends to be, and she stupidly drives home after a night of drinking, gets a little tangled up in some construction, and ends up wrecking her car and landing herself a hospital stay and a DUI. Sunday travels back to the east coast to her family home with her tail between her legs, dreading having to face her 3 brothers and ex-fiancé. All of the Brennan siblings are trying to get their lives back on track, so the book changes characters as it changes chapters. I love the way the author used a bit of dialogue to pull together each chapter. Genius. I do have one big complaint with this book. I NEEDED AN EPILOGUE. She does a great job of wrapping up the story, but I always need an epilogue of 5 years later, 10 years later, etc. How did everyone end up!? But overall, awesome book. Thank you so much to Celadon Books and Tracey Lange for my copy!
