Woah. I wasn't expecting such a moving read with high emotional content. Serious topic discussion and characters with purpose make this read one that you won't soon forget.

Ern Morales is faced with a struggle; Angst towards the guy that raped his sister at a frat party. Already struggling to deal with that pain for her, he quickly realizes that the legal system doesn't always provide the appropriate justice and the closure needed for victims and their families. Having to control a rage that builds for the brother and most especially for the sister, there is a series of events that spiral in and out of dark places. What fascinated me most was the unique way of incorporating a historical story to the characters to give a sense of what has been going on for ages. It's bold and traumatic and it punches you in all the emotions you find yourself feeling for the people and events and sometimes even of your own and others you know.

A read to be taken seriously. It's hard to say "I enjoyed this book" because it doesn't seem appropriate. I will say, I was affected deeply by this book. I was drawn into the story. I felt strong emotion and a connection. I am glad that I read this book and I recommend others go on this journey as well.
Thanks to Author Joy McCullough and to Penguin Teen for my copy of this book won via giveaway. I received. I read. I reviewed this book honestly and voluntarily.
