After reading the synopsis, I was very excited for this book and anticipated that it would be one of my favourites. However, I was dissatisfied with the book and concluded that it was just a passable read. While I believe the plot is relevant and addresses tough issues such as rape and victim blaming, the execution fell short for me.
I was ecstatic when I discovered that a section of the book was written in verse. I like stories told in verse, but when the verse was a made-up storey by the protagonist, I considered it to be a bit of filler in the novel (even though it had to do with what the storey was about). I also didn't feel a strong connection to the book's protagonist. She seemed a little disconnected from those around her and a bit self-centered, and it just didn't sit right with me.
I'm giving this three stars because it is such an important topic and it's important to discuss the victim blaming, but otherwise, this book just wasn't for me.
