We Are The Ashes, We Are The Fire is a really inspiring story. After Em Morales’ sister is raped by another student at a frat party and the rapist gets no jail time for the rape, Em finds solace in the story of Margeurite di Bressieux, a legendary knight who avenges rape victims.
This was a heartbreaking story. Rape is a very horrible thing to go through and the author handled it with care. She shows how it affects the victim and their family. The story also discusses how messed up the justice system is and how it can effect people’s lives. This type of story is all too familiar and sheds light on the injustices that are so prevalent in the United States’ justice system.
I gave this book four stars because, while the topic is extremely important and was handled carefully, I did feel some of it was not necessary or didn’t flow. All in all, a great, important book.
