I'm disappointed. I really did think I would end up enjoying this novel. Especially the topic.

I love reading books about how empowering a woman was after overcoming an incident such as what happened to Em's sister. But this really didn't keep me in. The beginning was amazing, but as I kept reading, it began to not make sense to me, and things began to get blurry between everything. Three stars because I love the plot, and Em's attitude, but the way everything began to go downhill is what brought the star rating down.

And now that I'm going back at the genres, it's labelled as poetry?? To be honest, I don't enjoy poetry at all, so that may also be a reason as to why I don't like this book. In my opinion, I also think that she wrote weirdly. I felt the main character was selfish and deflecting of all of her loved ones feelings. I understand one of the purposes of the novel was to show growth through Em as she navigates difficult situations in her life, but the way she handles those situations made me upset as I was reading.
Overall, I think if you’re interested in this book, you should give it a shot for its main idea because it teaches a beautifully heartbreaking message about feminism. It’s just personally not my favorite book I’ve read this year!
