I received a free arc from penguin teen Through bookish first in exchange for an honest review.

We are inevitable was a great read. It focuses on Aaron who runs a dying bookstore with his father. Aaron thinks they’re dinosaurs after the asteroid hit and are just waiting for the inevitable extinction to happen. But when a group of people from their town take an interest in fixing up the store maybe it’s not too late to save it.

The story wasn’t fully what I expected. I thought there would have been more romance but it was less about the romance between Aaron and Hannah and more about Aaron and his family’s bookstore. I didn’t mind that after awhile. I was a little put off at first because the description and even the cover made me think romance but after I got past the shock I was invested in the story.
Speaking of the cover I liked that there was a little bluebird on the cover in reference to the bookstore name

The writing was great and so were the characters. One thing That caught my attention was a minor character who was never outright said to be gender nonconforming but everyone just casually referred to this character with they/them pronouns and didn’t make a big deal out of it. I thought it was awesome that this was just accepted and wasn’t their whole point of being in the story. They had other reasons to be there not just to have an lgbt plot point to discuss or anything. It felt so normal just as normal as referring to someone with any other pronouns. This was done flawlessly and even though they are only a minor character I still appreciated it.

If you’re ever looking for a book recommendation or you need a book that’s mentioned in a book for a challenge or something then we are inevitable will give you that. There are so many books referenced throughout the story. Each chapter title is a different book title.

Overall an awesome read!
