Aaron is feeling absolutely trapped in his life.
He owns a bookstore but he’s lost his love for reading.
The only book he can read is one about dinosaurs. He’s obsessed with the idea of extinction being inevitable and how the dinosaurs never knew what was coming.
He’s obsessed with anything that feels inevitable. There’s a moment in his life that he considers “the asteroid” that hit his family and forever changed everything.

He feels like the next inevitable thing is losing the bookstore.
His father loves the store but it’s in Aaron’s name because his dad had to file for bankruptcy. Aaron doesn’t even want the store and he has the authority to sell it. Which he decides to do, behind his dad’s back, because he feels it’s the only thing he can do.

Things change shortly afterwards, while Aaron is still keeping the secret.

He reconnects with Chad, a bit of a bully from his highschool years. Chad used to be a skater but now is in a wheelchair. Chad has changed a lot since highschool and he tries to make Aaron his friend. Aaron doesn’t really have any friends anymore but he still fights against it at first.

He also meets Hannah, ironically she’s a musician. Ironically because Aaron doesn’t even like music. She’s reading Aaron’s favorite book when they meet which he takes as a sign. But he’s also afraid to get involved with her.

Then there’s the builders in town who just suddenly one day decide to make some repairs around the store for free. Aaron is very suspicious of their intentions.

This book was so sad for most of the time. Aaron’s situation was rough. And I had a lot of empathy for Aaron but I didn’t always like him.

Chad was actually my favorite character. I loved Chad. He’s such a good guy, with such a hood heart.

I got an early edition of this book from BookishFirst. Thanks!
