Not what you think
My low rating of the book has to do with writing rather than content. I thought it was slow paced and didn't really grip my attention. I had a hard time getting through the book. I didn't identify with or really come to care for any of the characters despite the trauma they went through. I see that a lot of people are saying that there is a lot of violence being depicted without remorse and I don't think the book tried to glorify that in anyway. It was making us come to grips with the reality of it in the real world while showing it to us in a new world. It is the way of life that people of color and those of the lgbtq+ community are discriminated against. It is showing us that violence in a different setting. That being said I don't really recommend this book to other people just because if we leave out the social injustice, its just not a good book in general.
