I'm so disappointed that this book didn't live up to the hype and expectations. I was really looking forward to an urban fantasy LBGTQIA+ read and this book just didn't do it for me. I tried. I really, really tried to get into the book, but the plot went nowhere and there's just random happenings that made absolutely no sense. The prologue is so good and draws you in immediately, but as you read the story, you'll be left so confused and trying to figure out the purpose of each character, who they are, and how any of the magic and world building works. To me, it just didn't work at all. Maybe this book is supposed to leave you confused most of the time and it's the true intent of the author. There were also a lot of upsetting moments with the treatment of black people in the book with the blatant racism. I'm just not a fan of the writing style, the lack of world building and plot, and the characters who seem to have no direction in their life. While it's not for me, I hope it's an enjoyable book for others who can appreciate it more. As previously mentioned, what drew me in was the prologue and the premise. The cover is also intriguing. I'm sorry to say that it turned out to be a 1 star for me.
