I do like it, some things in the book made me a bit uncomfortable though. Maybe it is the first book, having to explained the world and the main characters that is involved in the plot. I do love the world-building. It is a bit different from the regular fantasy I always read. Even though the beginning start out as of old times, it became modern times in about two decades. That didn't make sense to me.
Love that it included trans rep, the back and forth of the pronouns was confusing. The falsely accused of crime on the black man, who is one of the main characters, is what made the book harmful and uncomfortable. And that the other characters don't feel remorse on some of their decisions/actions. Maybe Rose Szabo is trying to put a message through her book on how our world is?
There is a lot of potential. Gorgeous writing, amazing world-building, absolutely beautiful cover. I really do like it.
