This is easily the most disappointing book of the year for me.

I absolutely love the cover and the prologue and opening chapters really pulled me in. Past that the middle dragged on and the ending was unsatisfying (and not in a fun way that sets up for another book).

The story seems more NA/A rather than YA, which is a small complaint in the grand scheme of things but I feel selling a book as YA sets up expectations that where missed here.

I was so excited for all the queer rep this book promised, but the only character that was done was Jesse (who I believe is supposed to be gender fluid but I’m not completely sure). The rest of the characters felt underdeveloped in that area which was a huge let down for a book that’s marketed as one with a ton of queer rep.

I'm not a fan of the author’s writing style. The interludes (why weren’t they just normal chapters?), the narrator addressing the reader, and the few lines in parentheses about what another character was doing during someone else’s chapter pulled me out of the book. I also thought the multiple viewpoints were handled poorly as well. I frequently found myself wondering what other characters were doing because they were just so much more interesting.

My biggest complaint is the author tried to tackle a few heavy topics and fumbled every single one of them which lead to a rather unpleasant read.
