Okay, so its kind of hard to write a review based off a few chapters from a book. However, I can kind of tell if I would continue reading a book or not. Unfortunately, I would not continue on with this book knowing what I know about it. I feel especially like the author was unsure what time period she wanted her story to take place in. When I think of kings and queens and magic, I think of old timey kingdoms. But there were pagers so the main character could be paged. They used the words smashed to describe consuming something fast. Its just odd things that in my opinion don't fit in with a story that features kings and queens. I can't be the only one to find that odd. Right? And also a baby with octopu arms? Im not into tentacles and find the presence in the books a huge turnoff. Also, some things were left unclear, when Astrid saw the king behind iron bars, she sniffed him like they were lovers. But he had a queen. Also, how did the magic become lost? Also, is this the first book? If so, some basic explaining of the base of the plot would really help.
