This book was a case of me not necessarily being interested based on the book description but pulled right into the story when I read the excerpt. It’s fun when that happens because it usually causes me to read something I wouldn’t have picked up on my own.
In the pre-face to the story’s beginning we meet Astrid. She is tasked with delivering a woman’s baby. Several startlingly things happen during the birth and they leave Astrid to decide what to do next.
Then we meet Jesse. Jesse has always felt out of place. Jesse has just gotten on a bus to go to a magical city and is warned that it might not be safe.
