The story begins with a murder. The serious crimes unit is investigating the scene and we learn that someone was killed with twenty knife wounds. The book then backs up a couple of years and introduces us to Joey and her brother Jack and their lives. Joey is recently eloped to a holiday fling and has moved in with her brother and his wife. We soon learn that the victim in the opening scene is one of Jack's neighbors and that Joey had seen the victim the day of the murder.
The author does as very nice job of introducing Joey and you get an inkling of why she might have become involved with the victim. A strong start to an intriguing story.
