I love a good mystery, and the short clip offered of this book I see all the hallmarks of an intriguing mystery story. It opens with a brief prologue in which DC Rose Pelham is investigating a murder and discovers a red suede tassel. Hmmm! Nothing more to offer. Intriguing!

Then we are introduced to Joey Mullen, a 26 year old woman whose mother died some time in the recent past. She also speaks lovingly of her relationship with Alfie--a husband? boyfriend? fiance? Unknown. Joey has a less than perfect relationship with her older brother Jack and his wife Rebecca, but they are family.

Down the street from Joey is a new resident. Not much information is given about Tom Fitzwilliam and his son, but it is clear that Joey has some kind of relationship with Tom, possibly more. Intriguing.

The narrative is interrupted by the report of a police investigation in which Joey was interviewed. We assume this relates to the murder, but the focus of the cross-examination was Tom Fitzwilliam. Intriguing.

I love a good mystery story and this is one that I would enjoy reading.
