Watch Her by Edwin Hill has many things I like in a mystery thriller. I like short chapters as I think it makes the plot move along at a rapid pace. I also like a book told from different perspectives. This book accomplishes this. After reading about fifty pages, I found I needed to start again as so much information is given to the reader, I became confused about relationships between characters and the backgrounds of each. I started again with a chart and it really helped. I discovered later that this was a third book in the Hester Thursby series. I think it might have made it easier if I read them.

Hester is a librarian who likes to search with missing people. She attends an event at Prescott University. While there, Jennifer Matson the wife of Tucker who owns the university calls and says that someone broke into their secluded home. Detective Angela White who is also at the gala takes Hester with her to investigate.

We are introduced to many characters as this story is told and like a spider’s web each character is related somehow to another character. All have past stories that are revealed and the author is good at revealing their stories and the reader is always wondering what their past lives have to do with the present.

I do think that the book could be shortened and still be effective. I did like the homage to Angie Dickinson and Police Woman. This has been an interesting book to read during our stay-at-home life and would make a good book to read if snowed in for a few days. My thanks to Kensington Publishers and Bookishfirst for an ARC. The opinions in this review are my own.
