This book kept me turning the pages eager to find out how the pieces all tied together. They mystery centers on one family with a secret past. The author wove the past and present in an intriguing way. I enjoyed all the characters, especially Hester, who uses her research skills to solve the mystery. The characters are well-developed and interesting. My favorite thing about the book was the setting. Living in Massachusetts, I have been to the town, including the pond where the book was set. The author did a fantastic job creating a vivid image of the secluded mansion where a good part of the book takes place. The author was inspired to include the mansion in the book by an actual location that existed before it was knocked down. The intrigue of the mystery, the wonderful characters, and the interesting setting all combined to make this a great read.
