This was an interesting introduction, but it is tough to tell where the story is going from this excerpt. I like the beginning of the story with Maxine moving and what appears to be her idea of independence. She is a strong female lead character and I like that. It's interesting how they skip to 24 years later and I'm not sure where the story is going from here.
