FIRST IMPRESSION 8/25/19 - 3.5 stars

I haven't read Tochi's other books, Beasts Made of Night and Crown of Thunder, but after reading War Girls, I feel these are a necessity to hold me over until publication.

The letter from the Assistant Editor was a nice, personal touch, as I don't see that a lot with excerpts/first looks/ARCs. I learned more about Tochi and his reasoning for writing War Girls, which helped me become more engaged in the story because it's so personal and close to his heart.

The world-building is well done and helps you visualize the environment Onyii and Ify are living.

FULL ARC REVIEW 11/1-11/20/19 - 4-4.5 stars

I've seen Tochi's name popping up everywhere and found getting an ARC of War Girls was a great opportunity to check out his writing. I will admit that I was not very knowledgeable about the Nigerian Civil War; however, that did not factor into my rating of the story - that's why there's an author's note and Google at your fingertips!

PROS
+ Sisterly relationship
+ LGBTQ+ relationships
+ Strongly developed characters
+ Great world-building
+ Unexpected twists

CONS
- Mechs (or Gundams, in my head) - this is just a personal preference as I can't get into anime/manga with mechs either :'(
- Fast-paced start that tapered off towards the middle; it didn't feel like anything was happening for ~100 pages.
